Reporting problems to the FDA keeps the public safe from problematic drugs and medical devices.
When a problem arises with a medication or medical device, the public may feel like they don’t have any options. Many people may pursue litigation against the manufacturers of faulty medical devices or dangerous prescription drugs. Few people know about their right to report problems with FDA regulated pills and devices directly to the FDA MedWatch Program.
It is often through the FDA’s Serious Adverse Event voluntary reporting that the public becomes aware of problems such as the infection rate with C-Qur Hernia Mesh or dangerous weight loss, diarrhea, and vomiting with Benicar. Healthcare providers are encouraged to report adverse events such as permanent damage, life-threatening risks, birth defects, death, and other serious events to the FDA. Consumers also have the option to report their problems with medications and medical devices.
There are currently only a very small percent of all drug and device injuries being reported to the FDA. In only a few short weeks, the Hollis Law Firm has received more hernia mesh adverse event reports than the entire FDA database!
What does the FDA do?
The FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, is the government agency responsible for protecting public health through monitoring the food, drugs, and medical devices humans use. The FDA also regulates tobacco and cosmetic products. The FDA has encouraged the public to come forward with their adverse events. Reporting adverse events to the FDA helps regulate the drugs and medical devices the FDA monitors.
