Atrium Medical was founded over three decades ago as a health care provider. On average, Atrium Medical manufactures over 2.7 million sterile medical products and distributes them to over 60 countries. One of the most popular products distributed by Atrium Medical is its C-Qur™ Mesh. After the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved C-Qur in 2006, C-Qur became widely used in hernia repair, chest wall reconstruction, surgical wounds, or in traumatic wound cases. This supportive material is used to help give structure to the patient’s wounds and support tissues. After almost ten years of C-Qur being on the market, production halted in February 2015 after Atrium failed to respond to several complaints.

In response to several complaints, the FDA issued a warning letter issued to Atrium Medical in October of 2012. Some patients reported experiencing infections associated with C-Qur use. After patients started experiencing infections, medical providers started to notice that the gel coating could adhere to the inner lining of the package after being exposed to high humidity. A class 2 recall was issued on August 9th in 2013. Atrium Medical chose to stay silent regarding the claims against their “sterile” product. As a result, the FDA issued a permanent injunction which stopped the production of C-Qur. As a result of Atrium Medical’s silence, many patients who experienced severe side effects are filling C-Qur lawsuits.
