C-Qur Mesh Complications Reported to the FDA

Hernia mesh complications reported to the FDA increase regarding C-Qur

The FDA received two more alarming adverse event reports last year regarding C-Qur hernia mesh complications. The reported adverse events are similar to other C-Qur complications that the Hollis Law Firm has observed. The C-Qur hernia mesh causes chronic groin pain, infection, and organ perforation among other problems. The FDA reprimanded Atrium in the past for failing to respond to reported mesh complications. Atrium’s noncompliance with the FDA even led to a lawsuit initiated by the United States of America against Atrium.

Our head lawyer for hernia mesh recently uncovered a physician submitted hernia mesh complication in July of 2015 to the FDA. The physician reported the Omega 3 Fatty Acid (O3FA) coating flaked off while suturing the mesh into the patient. The O3FA is a blend of pharmaceutical grade triglycerides and fish oil, which is unique to Atrium’s C-Qur mesh. Atrium responded by placing the blame on the physician, claiming all proper procedures were in place for its C-Qur mesh. However, physicians continue to report the O3FA layer flaking and peeling off of the C-Qur hernia mesh.

Another physician submitted a hernia mesh complication in October of 2015 to the FDA. The physician’s patient developed cellulitis and abdominal pain within a year of their C-Qur implantation. The physician was able to remove the mesh, but noticed that the mesh had an adherent green tofu-like substance. Again, Atrium responded that it was likely surgeon error or that the patient didn’t respond well because of an immunodeficiency. Later in the report, Atrium stated that the anti-inflammatory O3FA can contribute to a low-grade inflammatory response after placement.
